Gelber Muskateller 2020, Weingut Muster

100% Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, which is called Gelber Muskateller in Austrian. Planted on 'Opok' soil, which we are huge fans of because of the deep, dark minerality it instills in a wine. The grape behaves differently in Südsteiermark than in Roussillon or on Samos, but it remains recognizably Muscat: the aromas of mountains and mountains of freshly pruned elderflower and freshly chopped mint and chervil fly over your head, and when you take a sip it is as if you are licking passion fruit and ripe apricots from salty stones. It all seems a bit lavish, but all this is done with Austrian precision, and the enormous elegance of the Musters. Precision in the acid, elegance in the fruit and mineral. Who would have thought that licking fruit from stones would be such a delicate matter…
